As a big fan of Horizon Zero Dawn on the PlayStation 4, I was really looking forward to the announcement trailer for the next Horizon video game from Guerrilla Games made for the highly anticipated PlayStation 5. I was not disappointed. The Horizon Forbidden West reveal was even better than expected because the trailer featured a dragon none-the-less! In the full video above you can see the dragon appearing majestically circling Aloy around the 1:54 mark.

In the trailer we see Aloy (the female protagonist) dusting off an inscription of some kind and a neon dragon flying around the room. On first viewing I thought that perhaps her Focus was replaying a video file about Eastern dragon mythology, but on closer inspection it looks like she has found the remains of a casino and the neon dragon is in fact a holographic sign that her Focus is showing. This is more likely the case as the game is set on the west coast of the USA and this casino is most probably in Chinatown, San Francisco (or that’s what some people on Reddit think).

Horizon Forbidden West reveal video features a Dragon!

In Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West the player fights machines, often based on real animals, so I very much doubt that we will be able to battle a giant flying Asian dragon machine. It would be nice though! The rest of the game looks incredible and I am very excited for the release. I won’t be getting a PS5 for a long time – not until they bring out a smaller, cheaper model in black – but one of the first games I buy for it will definitely be Horizon Forbidden West.

If you have a PS4 and you’ve never played Horizon Zero Dawn I really recommend you do. It’s one of the few games that I would ever describe as epic. Everything about it is superb. The gameplay, the storyline, the characters, the detail, the writing, the voice acting. All of it is excellent. There are no dragons in the game, but you’ll be amazed at everything else!
